The Brown Girl Reset
On June 9, 2026, the American Malayali Heritage Foundation (AMHF) proudly hosted The Brown Girl Reset, the inaugural event of the AMHF Wellness Collaborative, at the Martin E. Segal Theatre at the CUNY Graduate Center in New York City. In partnership with the Department of Anthropology, AAMPOWER, AAARI, and CUNY, the evening brought together women from across our community for honest conversations about health, healing, identity, and self-care.
For many South Asian women, wellness is often placed behind family, careers, and the expectations of everyday life. The Brown Girl Reset was created to change that narrative by encouraging women to prioritize themselves, not out of obligation, but because they deserve to.
The evening featured a distinguished panel of speakers whose personal and professional experiences sparked thoughtful conversations on topics ranging from women's health and fitness to mental wellness, cultural expectations, and personal growth. Our panel included Dr. Rosy Thachil, Meryl-Lynn Joshy, Milan Mathew, and Lorna Ninan, each offering unique perspectives while reminding attendees that wellness looks different for every woman.
Beyond the discussions, the event created something equally meaningful: connection. Attendees shared stories, supported one another, explored Indian owned businesses through our vendor marketplace, and left with practical tools and renewed inspiration to care for themselves both physically and emotionally.
This event would not have been possible without the support of our partners, sponsors, volunteers, vendors, and everyone who attended. Your belief in this mission helped transform an idea into an evening of meaningful conversation and community.
The Brown Girl Reset was never intended to be a single event. It marks the beginning of a larger commitment through the AMHF Wellness Collaborative to create spaces where South Asian women feel seen, heard, and empowered to invest in their well-being.
Because sometimes, the most important thing we can do is pause, reset, and move forward, together.
