Suman Sabastin

Suman Sabastin is a New York City public high school teacher and CUNY adjunct professor with over 20 years of experience in education, workforce development, recruiting, training, and project management. She is deeply engaged in advancing STEM education and has been an active member of organizations including IEEE, NSBE, SWE, SHRM, and more.

Suman previously served as National STEM Project Manager at Girl Scouts USA, where she created the organization’s first national Robotics patch, inspiring girls across the country to explore STEM careers. She has coached several NYC FIRST Robotics teams to national-level competitions and continues to serve as a judge for major programs such as Future City, SWENext, TerraNYC, and IBM Watson. Her commitment to youth mentorship extends through initiatives like Executives on Campus at Baruch College, CityTutors, and Women@Tandon at NYU.

A graduate of Brooklyn Technical High School, Suman holds a BBA in Marketing from Baruch College, an MBA in Marketing Management from Pace University, an MS in Organizational Behavior from Polytechnic University, and a Project Management Certificate from New York University. She is the founder of STEMgurus, Inc., based in East Harlem, providing STEM exposure and mentorship to inner-city youth and guiding them toward higher education and global workforce readiness.

Suman is the eldest daughter of the late PJ Sabastin, a pioneer of Kerala Samajam NYC and founder of Suma Travels, Inc. established in 1979, the longest continuously operating Malayali travel agency in New York City. Inspired by her father’s legacy, Suman remains committed to supporting the Malayali diaspora by fostering connections to Kerala through education, mentorship, and entrepreneurial opportunities.
